Lenten Kick-Off Relieves World Hunger

2/16/2007
. . .

You are invited to combine the powers of fasting, prayer, and almsgiving on Ash Wednesday to help alleviate world hunger in an event called Global Fast (GF).

The brainchild of 25-year-old Harvard graduate Rich Halvorson, Global Fast 2007 seeks to get 10 million participants to pray and fast for world hunger—and to contribute to its solution in a practical way by donating the money they would have spent on food on Ash Wednesday for a meaningful project operated by GF and a partnering charity.

This year, Global Fast is partnering with Food For the Poor, Inc. (FFP), to build a sustainable village in Haiti. FFP, which gives over 96% of donations directly to serve the poor, agreed to match all funds raised through Global Fast. The project aims to relocate at least 100 families, providing them with clean water, food sources, other health care resources, and life skills.

From Our Founder

From time immemorial Catholic children have had the door opened to their first “sex lesson” by the holy words: “. . . and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.” And from time immemorial Catholic children have been given “Christian concepts on sex” through instructions on the Sixth and Ninth Commandments. Something completely and fundamentally different appears with detailed and explicit lessons provided in classroom sex education. Such lessons often include information scandalous to children. CUF does take a strict position in opposition to all such instructions in the classrooms.
